About the Playwright
Amy Chaffee
Amy is a professional stand up comedienne in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, and writes black comedies with feminist themes. She is a mother of two loving pitbulls, a dialect coach in film and television, and passionate about sourdough bread,. Recent credits include: “Deadpool Vs. Wolverine,” for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (opening globally July 26, 2024) and as Scarlett Johansson’s dialect coach for ”Fly Me to the Moon” for Columbia Pictures, opening July 12, 2024). She is an Associate Professor with tenure at Tulane University (New Orleans, Louisiana, USA) Her areas of teaching are: Voice, Acting, Comedy and Improv and the Entertainment Industry. Her ethnographic research focuses on embodied voice techniques and dialect/text work in film, television, radio, podcasts and theatre. Amy has taught voice/text analysis/acting in the US, Europe, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and performed in over 200 theatre and on-camera productions. She has written two other dark feminist comedies that have performed on several continents. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from NYU’s famed Tisch School of the Arts where she studied under Stella Adler, Robert Lewis and Augusto Boal. (If you know those names and have done the math, you already know she is too old to be mucking about like this.). She also holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of San Diego/Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, CA. She is an Associate Instructor of Fitzmaurice Voicework and has been the Executive Producer for the Freedom and Focus Global Theatre Festival in Dublin and London and was the Executive Director of the 2023 Freedom and Focus global Encuentro held in Los Angeles, CA. She is also the chief “field researcher” and resident know-it-all on a sociolinguistic podcast sponsored by Texas Tech University and Tulane titled, “You Talk Funny,” which will drop anywhere you can find podcasts sometime before the next ice age is over.
